Protein : GRIK2

Connectivity 46
Notes This gene encodes a subunit of a kainate glutamate receptor. Glutamate receptors mediate the majority of excitatory neurotransmission in the brain. This receptor may have a role in synaptic plasticity and may be important for learning and memory. It also may be involved in the transmission of light information from the retina to the hypothalamus. The structure and function of the encoded protein is changed by RNA editing. Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding distinct isoforms have been described for this gene.

State glutamate receptor 6 isoform 1 precursor
glutamate receptor 6 isoform 2 precursor

State Description Transcript Variant: This variant (1) encodes the longer isoform (1).
Transcript Variant: This variant (2) contains an alternate exon compared to variant 1, that causes a frameshift. The resulting isoform (2) is shorter and has a distinct C-terminus compared to isoform 1.
